Happy Valentine's Day?

It's V Day. No not the day to visit your Gynecologist! Valentine's Day. You can guess what that means! Blogpost from Brent! I know, no one is surprised that I have something to say against Valentine's Day... (I have been told that is what I do)

Now before you judge me too harshly (ladies), or celebrate too much (guys), let me say I am a believer that you should do romantical things for your spouse all the time. I dont care if you spend $100 once a year if you don't show any signs of adoration the other 364 days of the year! Now can I get on with it? :)

I am a believer in giving recognition to St. Valentine: the Catholic Bishop who converted many Italians to Christianity after healing a Roman judges daughter and got him self into trouble. I believe in St. Valentine's Day as a day to pay homage to the man who refused to deny Christianity before the Roman emperor Claudis and was beheaded. Such conviction of faith and martyrdom is worthy of homage.

What I object to is taking a religious day of observance to recognize a great man who for hundreds, even thousands of years has been an example of moral fiber, and in the course of 50 some-odd years reduce the man's legend to a commercial day to help stores have a better first quarter as an off-set for the post Christmas Season spending reduction.
"Love Day is too cheesy and obvious... Who's a religious figure we could exploit in the first quarter?"
"How about St. Valentine?"
"You are a genius Sir!"

Happy Valentine's Day indeed, one and all. ;)
